ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER
Full-time position opening with the Department of Public Works. All interested persons should submit a resume and cover letter to the Director of Public Works, City of Crestwood, One Detjen Drive, Crestwood, MO 63126 by 4:30 pm Friday, February 25, 2011.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position enforces all city ordinances and rules and regulations pertaining to animal control. She/he investigates animal complaints and takes or recommends appropriate action. She/he maintains the kennel facility, equipment and animals according to operational procedure.
SUPERVISION:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Monitors and enforces animal control rules and regulations; answers citizens’ calls; makes animal pickups; initiates the prosecution of individuals violating City Ordinances; operates city vehicle, two-way radio and pager; uses traps, control sticks, nets and ropes to capture animals; feeds animals; maintains equipment and cleans kennel facility; answers and responds to questions from residents; prepares records and reports for the Public Works department and municipal court; serves as liaison to the Animal Control Board; develops and conducts wildlife education programs and special interest events; submits informational and educational features for newsletter and web page; reviews all animal control policies, procedures and standardized forms and revises as necessary; creates instructional handouts related to pet behavior and wildlife management; other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school and completion of two years of college or related business/vocational school. Three years previous experience preferred. Possession of valid driver’s license required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
STARTING SALARY:
$33,569
